A motorcycle tank phone mount like ours is a black clamp with raised phone jaws and a round base behind it. Our listing describes it as “a magnetic holder for motorcycle fuel tanks and other suitable metal surfaces.” Before you order, check that your tank surface accepts a magnet and that the base can sit securely on it, then check your phone and case against the jaws. Do the setup with the bike stationary.
We sell a magnetic motorcycle phone mount, so read this as a shop’s notes on its own listing plus what riders ask online.
Why riders look at the tank
Two riders on Reddit were looking for somewhere to put a phone.
- One rider wanted to give their father a phone mount as a present. They wrote that “it’s almost impossible to secure one with this kind of body,” and that the one in the middle of their photo is “a janky jerry rigged bike phone mount using some straps.”
- A dirt bike rider wrote that the last time they went out exploring, they often found themselves having “to stop, take a glove off and fish my phone out of my pocket to check my maps.” They wanted a tank bag with a clear plastic window for the phone, and said they didn’t like the idea of a handlebar mount “quite as much.”
The tank is one more place to look. Whether it works on your bike comes down to the checks below.
What our listing says
Our listing for the Black Tank Phone Clamp with Round Magnetic Base describes “a tall rectangular center panel, opposed raised phone jaws and a circular base visible behind the panel.” It adds that “a silver-colored fastener sits near the center of the phone-facing surface.”
It says the mount “requires a compatible surface.” One black clamp with its pictured round base is included. A phone and motorcycle are not included.
People search for this as “motorcycle tank phone mount”, “magnetic motorcycle phone mount”, “motorcycle magnetic phone mount”, “motorcycle tank phone holder” or “gas tank phone mount motorcycle”.
Four checks before you order
Our listing says to “check whether the intended surface accepts a magnet and whether the base can sit securely on it,” to “check the phone and case against the jaw opening,” and to “make sure the phone position leaves required controls and access clear.”
- The magnet. Hold a small magnet against the spot on your tank. If it doesn’t stick there, that spot doesn’t accept a magnet.
- The base. Look at how the round base would sit on the curve of the tank at that spot.
- Your phone and case. Check your phone in its case against the jaw opening.
- The controls. Make sure the phone in that position leaves the controls you need, and access to them, clear.
Our listing also notes that “tank material, curvature and finish compatibility need checking.”
Set it up while stationary
Our listing says to “check the setup while the motorcycle is stationary.”
- Park the bike. Stay stationary while you fit and adjust it.
- Place the base. Set the round base on the spot you checked.
- Seat the phone. Fit your phone between the raised upper and lower jaws.
- Check the controls. Confirm the phone position leaves the controls you need clear.
